Finding the perfect dive school can make or break your certification experience. Here's what to look for and the questions to ask.

Safety First

• Instructor-to-student ratio: Look for 1:4 or better. Avoid schools with 1:8+ ratios.
• Equipment condition: Are BCDs, regulators, and tanks well-maintained?
• Emergency procedures: Does the school have oxygen on the boat? First aid kits?
• Insurance: Is the school insured? Do they offer DAN insurance to students?

Certifications Matter

Ensure the school is certified by a recognized agency:

• PADI 5 Star — Highest PADI rating, indicates quality and range of courses
• SSI Diamond — SSI's top-tier recognition
